From today, I am again starting the pipe cleaner snowflakes series! Learn how to craft a decorative pink snowflake ornament using pink chenille stems (pipe cleaners), a hot glue gun, and faux pearl embellishments. It is a quick and easy method to make a perfect pipe cleaner Christmas snowflake in under 10 minutes.

Six branching arms are sculpted with uniform loops, joined into a six-pointed star, topped with a folded six-petal floral center, accented with pearls on both sides, and finished with a silver hanging loop.

Uses:

  • Hanging ornament for Christmas trees or festive holiday displays.

  • Winter wonderland themed party and room decor.

  • Decorative topper for wrapped holiday gifts.

  • Window or wall hanging pendant for seasonal decor.

Difficulty Level

Difficulty: Easy (Beginner-friendly)
Why: The craft uses readily available craft supplies and requires only fundamental crafting skills such as bending, twisting, measuring, and gluing. Minimal safety precautions are needed, mainly when operating the hot glue gun and wire cutters. Achieving uniform loop sizes requires steady hands and patience, but the techniques themselves are straightforward.

Materials

  • Pink chenille stems (pipe cleaners)

  • Wooden ruler

  • Wire cutters / craft pliers

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  • Faux half-pearl beads / pearl cabochons

  • Silver thread or hanging cord

  • Scissors

Folds and Shaping Techniques

  • Teardrop/Top Loop Fold: Bending the tip of the wire into a rounded loop to create the terminal leaf point.

  • Opposing Lateral Loop Fold: Folding loops left and right along the stem to produce symmetrical fir-like needle branches.

  • Accordion / Zig-Zag Fold: Folding measured two-centimeter segments back and forth along the wire stem.

  • Radial Ring Fold / Petal Pinch: Bringing the ends of a zig-zag stem together into a circular six-petaled rosette.

Learn to Make the Pipe Cleaner Pink Snowflake

Better learn the whole method of making this plush snowflake using pipe cleaners in this tutorial:

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Shape the Snowflake Branches: Take one pink chenille stem and fold a rounded loop at the top end. Continue folding alternating, graduated loops on either side down the stem to create a tiered, fern-shaped branch. Repeat this process until you have six identical branches measuring approximately six centimeters each.

  2. Create the Inner Star / Flower: Take another chenille stem and use a ruler to bend it into a series of uniform two-centimeter zig-zag folds. Shape these folds into six distinct petal loops, join the ends into a closed circular flower, and trim the wire excess with wire cutters.

  3. Assemble the Snowflake Base: Using a hot glue gun, glue the lower tips of all six branched arms together at the center to form a symmetrical six-pointed snowflake.

  4. Attach Centerpiece and Accents: Glue the six-petaled flower piece directly onto the center of the snowflake base. Apply hot glue to the core of the star and attach a faux pearl bead; flip the ornament and glue another pearl on the opposite side for a clean, double-sided finish.

  5. Add Hanging String: Thread a loop of silvercord through one of the top loops of the snowflake, knot the ends securely, and trim any excess cord with scissors to complete the hanging ornament.
